Dr. Martin is a highly regarded laser eye surgeon. He has performed thousands of refractive procedures including LASIK, PRK, and the ICL for patients who are not LASIK or PRK candidates. He is one of the first Washington DC area eye surgeons to offer bladeless laser assisted cataract surgery and multifocal and accommodative intraocular lens implants to provide near, far and intermediate vision without glasses.
He was one of the first Washington area ophthalmologists to perform laser vision correction, starting in 1990. Dr. Martin performs all-laser LASIK surgery using the Alcon Wavelight Suite – the FS200-EX500 workstation – the most advanced LASIK lasers in the United States.
He performs laser assisted cataract surgery with the Panoptix Alcon LenSx. He implants the Alcon multifocal intraocular lens, astigmatism correcting Toric lenses and the extended depth of focus Vivity intraocular len. He performs Refractive Lens Exchange for selected patients.
Dr. Martin has performed many techniques of corneal transplant surgery including penetrating keratoplasty and DSAEK and now refers these cases to his associates Dr. Marwa Adi and Dr. Dean Flanders.
Dr. Martin has lectured, written many peer-reviewed articles, and has appeared on TV. He has been interviewed on the topic of laser vision correction and cataract surgery by Washingtonian Magazine, The Washington Post, Consumers Digest, The Gazette, The Associated Press, Men’s Fitness, Parade Magazine, Business Week, American Health for Women, P.O.V., Prevention Magazine, NBC 4 News, Channel 9-CBS News, the TVMD PBS series and other radio, television, and print media throughout the U.S.
Dr. Martin pursued research on refractive uses of lasers and laser safety at the NIH in the 1980s. Dr. Martin holds 10 patents for innovations in drugs and medical devices.
