A Letter from Dr. Arthur Schwartz to His Patients

Dear Patients,

Ophthalmologist Arthur L. Schwartz, MD - Glaucoma Specialist Washington DC

It has been an honor and privilege to be your ophthalmologist, and therefore, it is with conflicting emotions and a heavy heart that I want to share with you that after 51 years of practice, I am announcing my retirement as of December 31st, 2024.

I’ve been blessed with the passion for what I do. Ophthalmology is a wonderful career, and it is an especially meaningful way to help people. I am in a unique position that I’ve been coming to the ninth floor of 5454 Wisconsin Avenue since 1973 when I was welcomed by Drs. Alper and Berler.

I also have been quite fortunate to have had other wonderful colleagues in my career, including Drs. Martin, Weiss, Adi, Ken Schwartz, and Taney. Also, the addition of three highly skilled ophthalmologists over the recent years, Drs. Flanders, Dawson, and Tom. I am comforted in knowing that they will continue to provide outstanding care to my patients. They have outstanding training and are compassionate physicians.

I have also been blessed with a terrific staff over the years. I want to especially thank Clete, Lourdes, and Michelle, who have all been with me for more than 20 years.

I treasure the long-term patient relationships that have developed over these years, and when asked what I will miss most about private practice, my immediate response was my relationship with my patients. I wish you all continued good health and happiness.

With warmest personal regards,

Arthur L. Schwartz, M.D.

P.S. I look forward to seeing anyone who schedules an appointment with me prior to the end of the year.
